1. Overview
Towit is an iOS marketplace that connects drivers who need roadside help with independent tow truck operators nearby. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Towit, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.
"We," "us," and "Towit" refer to Towit LLC. "You" refers to anyone using the Towit mobile app, whether as a customer requesting a tow or as a driver providing one.
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account details: email address, password (stored hashed), full name, date of birth, and phone number.
- Profile photo: the image you upload as your avatar.
- Driver-specific information: if you sign up as a driver, we also collect your business or company name, the type of tow truck you operate, your per-mile rate, a photo of your truck, an optional bio, and any social-media handles you choose to add.
- Vehicle information: if you save a vehicle as a customer, we collect make, model, year, color, and license plate.
- Emergency contact: if you choose to add one, we store the name, phone number, and relationship of someone you'd like notified during an emergency.
- Insurance phone: the phone number of your insurance provider, if you choose to add it for quick-dial during a roadside incident.
- Tow request details: pickup location, destination (if provided), a description of what's wrong with your vehicle, and any photos you attach.
- Messages: the text, photos, and location pins you exchange with the other party in a chat thread.
- Reviews & ratings: the star rating and written feedback you leave after a completed tow.
- Reports & blocks: if you report or block another user, we record the action and any reason you provide so we can investigate.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Location data: see Section 5.
- Device information: iOS version, app version, device model, language, and crash logs.
- Usage data: the screens you visit, features you interact with, and basic analytics events we use to improve the app.
- Push tokens: the anonymous APNs token Apple assigns your device so we can send you notifications.
2.3 Information from third parties
- If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID and (if you allow it) the name and email Apple shares with us.
- If you choose to be verified as a driver, we'll use a third-party identity-verification service (such as Persona or Checkr) to confirm your identity, driver's license, and background. We receive a verification status (verified / pending / rejected) and store it on your account. We do not store copies of your government ID.
- If you purchase a driver subscription, our subscription provider (RevenueCat) and Apple share your purchase status with us — but never your full payment card details.
3. How we use it
- To run the marketplace — show drivers your tow request, show customers your driver profile, route messages between you.
- To display your name, photo, and ratings to the people you're matched with so they can trust who they're connecting with.
- To send transactional push notifications and emails (tow accepted, driver arrived, message received, payment requested, etc.).
- To enforce our Terms of Service and investigate reports of unsafe or abusive behavior.
- To verify driver eligibility and display a "Verified" badge where applicable.
- To improve the app — diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and design new features based on aggregated usage data.
- To comply with legal obligations (tax records, lawful requests from authorities, etc.).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising inside Towit.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the parties below, only for the purposes described, and only as necessary to operate the app.
- The other party in a tow: when you request a tow, the drivers in your area see your first name, profile photo, rating, pickup location, and tow description. When a driver accepts, you see their full name, business name, profile photo, truck photo, ratings, social links, and price.
- Supabase: our backend database, authentication, file storage, and realtime-messaging provider. Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure (Amazon Web Services regions).
- Apple: push notifications via APNs, optional Sign in with Apple, MapKit for the on-screen map.
- RevenueCat & Apple: process driver subscription billing.
- Identity-verification provider (Persona / Checkr): only when a driver chooses to get verified.
- Stripe (when in-app payments are enabled in a future version): processes card payments for tow charges.
- Law enforcement / legal authorities: only when required by valid legal process, or when we believe in good faith it's necessary to protect someone from imminent harm.
- A successor company: if Towit is acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. You'll be notified before any change in ownership affects your data.
5. Location data
Towit needs your location to function. We use it to:
- Show you nearby tow drivers on the customer map (and you on the driver map).
- Send your pickup pin to a driver who accepts your tow request.
- Share your live location with the driver during an active tow so they can find you.
- Share your live location with your emergency contact if you choose to send it from the Safety screen.
We request "While Using" location permission. When you're not using Towit, we don't track you. Drivers who turn on "Go Online" in the app share their live location with nearby customers while they remain online; turning offline stops the sharing immediately.
6. Photos & messages
Photos you upload (profile photo, truck photo, tow-request photos, chat attachments) are stored in our Supabase Storage and visible to the other party in a tow conversation. Chat messages are stored in our database so you and the other party can see your conversation history. We never read your messages except when responding to an abuse report you file.
7. How long we keep it
- Account data is kept while your account is active and for up to 30 days after you delete it (so we can recover from accidental deletions).
- Completed tow records, reviews, and messages are kept for up to 7 years for tax, dispute-resolution, and safety-investigation purposes.
- Anonymized analytics data may be kept indefinitely.
8. Your rights & choices
You can access, correct, or delete most of your personal information directly in the app under Profile → Edit Personal Info. You can also:
- Delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. This wipes your profile, photos, and personal details. Some information may be retained as described in Section 7.
- Turn off notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Towit.
- Turn off location sharing in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Towit. The app will not be usable while location is fully off.
- Block or report another user from their profile or chat screen.
- Export your data by emailing us at privacy@towitapp.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under California (CCPA/CPRA), the EU/UK (GDPR), or other privacy laws — including the right to object to certain processing or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Email us and we'll honor any valid request within 30 days.
9. Security
We protect your information with industry-standard practices: TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage at rest, row-level security policies on the database, and authenticated access to all endpoints. No system is perfect, so we can't promise absolute security, but if we ever experience a breach affecting your information, we'll notify you promptly and in accordance with applicable law.
10. Children
Towit is not for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, please email privacy@towitapp.com and we'll delete the account.
11. International users
Towit is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Towit grows. When we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
